State Home enjoys 40 and 8 visit
HOT SPRINGS - Residents of the South Dakota Veterans Home were treated to a steak feed and an afternoon of Bingo on Saturday, Aug. 23., complements of voyageurs from La Societe de Quarante Homme et Huit Chevauz, also known as the 40 et 8, a veterans service organization. The organization is in recognition of train cars in World War I, which would hold either 40 soldiers or 8 horses.
Voyageurs grilled the steaks which were served for lunch along with corn on the cob, potato salad, rolls, and watermelon. After the meal, residents enjoyed Bingo and door prizes. Among the door prizes were fleece throws made by dames from La Societe de Femmes. Members of both groups helped serve lunch to the residents and worked the bingo games. This is the third year this group has sponsored a summer picnic for the State Home residents.
